Lindbergh ended up in Americus, Georgia, where Jennies (An airplane used during World War II) was to be auctioned off. Lindbergh bought a Jenny for 500.00 and had it assembled. He finally took instructions from an aviator friend. Still, no one knew Charles hadn't soloed before. Charles's plane had been sitting all day, and he took off when evening came. Lindbergh said that this experience was like no other he'd imagined; Charles thought of all the training for months and months and years of hope of soloing. His first solo was meant being alone for the first time in an airplane a thousand feet in the air. Charles realized this was a memory he would never forget and would be etched in his mind forever.
Charles flew practice takeoffs and landings, loaded his spare parts and blankets, and took off for Minnesota.
